After passing the exam, you can apply for the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor credential. One exam, four credential tiers — the tier you receive depends on your experience.
- Provisional Auditor — no experience required
- Auditor — 2 years of professional experience (1 in AI) + 200 hours of audit activities
- Lead Auditor — 5 years of professional experience (2 in AI) + 300 hours of audit activities
- Senior Lead Auditor — 10 years of professional experience (7 in AI) + 1,000 hours of audit activities
- All tiers: pass the exam and sign the PECB Code of Ethics

The exam takes 3 hours and covers seven competency domains.
When and how do I take the exam?
The exam is taken online via PECB Exams (myPECB). After completing the course, you schedule the date and time yourself — sessions run across time zones and each session has limited seats, so booking early is recommended.
In which languages can I take the exam?
The exam language is independent of the course language. Sessions are available in English and many other languages, including Turkish, French, Spanish, and German — you pick the language when scheduling on myPECB.
What happens if I fail the exam?
You can retake the exam free of charge within 12 months of your first attempt.
Are the exam and certification fees included?
Yes. The price includes the first exam attempt, one free retake, the certification application fee, and the first year's Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF). There is nothing extra to pay.
Is the course content in English?
